Matthew is a self-taught artist who has been honing his craft full-time for over 30 years, currently specializing in large-scale canvas & wood paintings, ceramics, and woodworking. He is continually evolving and discovering new methods of design and expression, combining mediums to emanate sensation and emotion in his artwork. Originally, Matthew was studying psychology at St. Johns University in Minnesota and this is where he discovered pottery. For a few years after, he sold his pieces at the Tamerac House Gallery in Stillwater Minnesota. While making pottery, Matthew started working with paints, plasters, and gilding, exploring many different finishes and teaching himself color. This set the tone for the next 30 years, throwing pottery, creating and installing custom finishes, gilding, hand-painting, and murals. More recently, Matthew has commented to painting large-scale canvas works in his studio. Though there is a wide range of styles, most pieces are mixed-media abstract paintings, displaying mood and emotion.
